wow, I feel I’ve been enthused by the true meaning of the #Olympics, as interpreted through the #Capitalist lens #London2012

about a year ago from identi.ca at Castlecary, Scotland, United Kingdom

@thistleweb I don’t get why anyone wants the Olympics… a tiny minority make a ki££ing leaving the taxpayers to pick up the tab… oh wait #1%

@laurelrusswurm exactamundo, a tiny minority of regular folks in the UK want this, despite the desperation of the media to hype it up

@laurelrusswurm the legacy will be expensive #PoliceState infrastructure outsourced to private firms & a huge bill for the tax payers

@laurelrusswurm the bus lanes being reserved for sponsors limos are gonna cause a LOT of resentment from the locals, rightly so too

@thistleweb yes, same thing happened in Vancouver

@thistleweb if memory serves, the Olympic committee sued a decades old tiny Vancouver mom&pop bakery for being called “Olympic”

@laurelrusswurm not quite the advertised & promised legacy of long term groundswell of young athletes & future gold medallist GB competitors

@laurelrusswurm @thistleweb the Olympic committee also gave a bunch of city employees, workers and volunteers vans from the corporate sponsor. Those vans could not be ticketed to the police because infractions would get billed to the city, causing a spiral of government paying itself. You could find those vans parked everywhere in every illegal way possible, half on a curb = no problem, on somebody’s lawn? Whatever.

@laurelrusswurm that does not surprise me in the slightest

@ryanweal they’ve awarded the bus lanes to VIPs, those lanes are usually for ambulances to cut traffic jams in emergencies

@ryanweal I can see bad PR if someone dies in an ambulence because they couldn’t bypass traffic as usual, over VIP #London2012 lanes

@thistleweb they definitely had special lanes in Vancouver too. I switched to bike, and decided to call it vacation time because there was really no getting anywhere on time.

@ryanweal London is congested beyond belief at the best of times AFAIK, the Olympics just add a LOT more folks, then they divert some lanes
